Thanks to the support provided by the Randolph Central School Board and Central Office, Baker Elementary Teachers spent one week during the summer of 2021 attending an intensive, on-site Orton-Gillingham training facilitated by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education.

Orton-Gillingham is an explicit, sequential, systematic, and multi-sensory approach used to teach literacy. This evidence-based program breaks reading and writing into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, then builds on these skills over time. It was the first approach to use explicit, direct, sequential, systematic, multi-sensory instruction to teach reading, which is not only effective for all students but essential for teaching students with dyslexia. More than anything, student participation is natural with OG techniques. They involve movement and engage learners using a variety of methods.
